Getting Involved

Volunteer Hours

Parents of students at Cherokee Charter Academy signed a contract to provide 20 hours of volunteer hours for the first child, and 10 hours for all additional siblings. A total of 30 hours is required for families with 2 or more children. It is our belief that the more involved parents are in their child's education, the better the student will perform academically.

Your child's teacher can provide you with ideas about the many ways you can assist in the classrooms as well as after school hours in order to earn your volunteer hours. There are many opportunities for parents to assist at the school with or without planning ahead of time. Volunteers must be available to follow instructions given by the teacher and cannot have younger children with them that would require some of their attention. Volunteers should make arrangements for younger children to be cared for at home.

Remember to bring valid identification (drivers license or state issued id) when you are volunteering at a school. Please first stop at the main office to sign in, have your id scanned, and a badge issued to you. All volunteers must be scheduled with a teacher/staff member prior to volunteering.

Volunteers are needed every day at Cherokee Charter Academy in both the elementary and middle school classrooms. Please ask your child's teacher about opportunities he/she has for you.

Visiting the school for events and activities is different than volunteering. Parents are welcome to bring younger children to school to watch plays, parades, celebrations, etc. These "visits" do not earn volunteer time.

Here is a list of SOME of the things you can volunteer to do:

Parent Teacher CoOp

Cherokee Charter Academy offers unprecedented opportunities for parents to be engaged in their child's education. Your close involvement with our school will help to raise funds to improve the school and to enhance the programs offered. To help organize the parent volunteers, we have formed the CCA-PTC (Parent Teacher Co Op). The PTC mission is to create opportunities for involvement in a large scale that will allow hundreds of parents to assist and volunteer at Cherokee Charter Academy.

Please see the list of Committees below and choose where you wish to become involved. Each PTC Committee has appointed Co-Chairs to lead, direct and organize. We hope that you will contact one of the Co-Chairs directly to do your part.

The Committee Chairs will meet monthly with the PTC Coordination Committee (PTC/CC) to seek approval for projects, expenditures and to report on Committee happenings. We will also hold quarterly "general meetings" to keep all parents and teachers informed and to recognize the accomplishments of the committees.

As we settle into our first year, it will take time to get everything up and running smoothly. We have plans for a PTC Web Site, PTC Newsletter, Student/Staff Directory and lots of special events and fund-raisers. Please stay tuned to the SIS system and to to stay informed.

On behalf of the PTC, we thank you for your involvement and dedication. Go Tigers!
